♥ Back To School Beauty Checklist ♥

Hi, BeautyPrincesses

The first day of school can be daunting, so what to do when something goes bad during a busy school day? Here's our back to school beauty checklist so you can make sure you're prepared for any classroom beauty emergency.

Conspiracies & Cover-Ups
Throughout the day, oily skin can fade your perfect blemish cover-up job. In addition to the anti-shine (we'll get to that later!), keep your concealer with you for touch-ups.

I RECOMMEND HARD CANDY GLAMOUFLAGE CONCEALER

Sanitation Engineering
Have a stash of makeup wipes with you at all times. These all-purpose multi-taskers are essential in any beauty bag—they can handle everything from makeup removal to who-knows-what-else.

I RECOMMEND YES TO CUCUMBER ON-THE-GO FACIAL TOWELETTES

Luscious Lips and You
Keep your lips hydrated and moisturized with a sheer and non-sticky balm or gloss. On a particularly windy day, you'll thank us for reminding you to avoid the goopy formulation.

I RECOMMEND BURT'S BEES LIP SHIMMER

Advanced Biology
Textbooks, friends, the lunch counter, your chair—the first day of school has a lot of yucky germs that your immune system hasn't adapted to yet! Keep a mini-bottle of moisturizing hand sanitizer with you for double-duty hydration and hygiene!

I RECOMMEND CLEAN ANTI-BACTERIAL HAND CREAM

Applied Shine Control
Nothing ruins a makeup look like the dreaded midday oil slick. Whether you use blotting papers, sheer pressed powder, or toilet seat covers (seriously, this trick actually works!), remember keep the shine at bay.

I RECOMMEND BOSCIA FRESH BLOTTING LINENS

Disaster Relief
Like all unfair things in life, we usually sprout a fresh blemish on the eve of the first day of school. Treat it throughout the day with an on-the-go blemish fighter and zap that zit before the week is up!

I RECOMMEND CLEAN & CLEAR ADVANTAGE POPPED PIMPLE RELIEF GEL PEN

Intro to Health
You never know when your favorite Aunt Flo will make a surprise visit, so be sure to keep a stash of at least three pads or tampons in your kit, just in case of a biological emergency.

I RECOMMEND TAMPAX PEARL TAMPONS

Toxicology 101

Moving from classroom to classroom while lugging a heavy book bag can make a Beauty a little sweaty. Body odor is a big no-no, so we say prepare for the worst! Tote a mini deodorant or small body spray to make sure you always smell fresh. Remember, choose a subtle, light scent so you don't stink up the hall.

I RECOMMEND DEGREE WOMEN WITH MOTIONSENSE DEODORANT

The Art of Hair
Few things are more annoying than frizz and poof. Have a small collection of bobby pins, hair ties, hairspray, and serum at your disposal to keep your mane in check. And if you wake up in the morning with hair that just won't cooperate? Headband it is!

I RECOMMEND GOODY SPIN PINS

Dental Hygiene
Have you ever used a strand of hair to floss your teeth in an emergency? We have, and it's not fun. Pack some dental floss on you for food-free teeth when the bell rings!

I RECOMMEND ORAL-B GLIDE FLOSS

♥ HowTo's: Makeup Organization ♥

Hi, BeautyPrincesses
Today I have some Tips for Organizing your Makeup because we all see that Mess on your Desk.

KNOW YOURSELF.
What organization method suits you best? Conduct a personal investigation. Look through your bathroom, clothing, and books and make a list of the ways that you seem to naturally arrange your stuff. Are you quick at finding things by color, or perhaps you go more by shape? Now focus on your cosmetics. Is it more conducive to arrange products by function, or maybe it’s better to organize by brand? Whichever way you choose to categorize will depend on you and your collection. A box containing all lipsticks is great for a smaller collection, while a box of only MAC lipsticks is perfect for a brand-centric collector. A carton of blue nail polish would be perfect for an avid nail artist, while a box of blue everything would be better to pull from for when you need a particular shade. Whatever method you choose should makethe most of your collection and space.

KEEP IT HANDY. Are you a bathroom or a bedroom artist? Storing your collection of cosmetics where you use it will not only make your routine faster, it will put an end to that trail of shadows and glosses from one part of the house to the other. The closer you can keep all your cosmetics to your mirror the better, to avoid cluttering up your vanity, counter-top, or workspace with yesterday’s shades and dirty brushes. If your collection is at hand, you’re more likely to put things back right away.

GET MESSY.
It may seem appealing to meticulously organize products in a rainbow-colored order, or arrange them in a perfectly flush line or stack. The problem is they are only going to look great until the next time you’re in a hurry (which, last time we checked, is nearly every day). A good strategy is to keep things grab-and-go friendly by piling categorized products into wide-mouth boxes, jars, and canisters. You’ll find what you need in a pinch, and feel guilt-free about shoveling items away before running out the door, making cleanup a breeze.

MAKE A FAVORITES BOX.
Though we all love to experiment with up-to-the-minute shades, our old standards and everyday basics are always popping in to say hi. Why store these away when you’ll be taking them out daily? Keep a small box right by your mirror to fill with your foundation, brow pencil, mascara, clear gloss, and that lipstick you’ve been wearing nearly everyday for a month. You’ll be ready in no time with these familiar friends within reach.

PURGE ANNUALLY.
A monster-size collection is okay, as long as everything is well loved. Take the time once a year (if not more) to dig to the bottom of your bins and boxes and pull out unused items and spoiled products. Goopy nail polish and smelly lipstick aren’t worth keeping. Give away fresh products that aren’t your taste. Purging your collection with keep it manageable down the road, and keep you feeling organized.

♥ HowTo's: Juice For Glowing Clear Skin ♥

 Hiya BeautyQueens,
Today Im going to teach you how to make juices for Glowing Clear Skin....

The way our skin looks affects us. When it’s clear and glowing, makeup glides on smoothly, and we don´t
even think about it. But when our complexion acts up, it becomes a selfish, temperamental beast with no respect for date nights, interviews or Casual hangouts. Makeup is suddenly not fun to put on. And then we spend lots of time in the mirror, looking at, poking, and obsessing.
Not cool.

Bumps and rashes aren’t entirely our skin’s fault—skin is the body’s largest organ, and also one of its largest waste elimination systems. Toxins in our body sometimes surface through the skin, and if you’re like me, you hate that. Soaps, gels, creams aren’t your only defense. Good nutrition can keep the toxins at bay from the inside out.

Juice for Clear, Glowing Skin Note: If you don’t have a juicer, this would work in the blender. The juice will come out a lot thicker, but the raw nutrients will still be there.

Ingredients:

1 whole fennel bulb Found in most produce sections, fennel is a lightly sweet nutritional powerhouse. Not only is it loaded with vitamin C, which prevents cell damage, but it has tons of antioxidants and a phytonutrient called anethole, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory nutrient. But wait! Fennel is also an antiseptic (kills bacteria!) and a diuretic, meaning it helps drain the puffiness from eyes. Go fennel!

1 large beet Beets are high in iron, which fights dark circles under the eyes, and vitamin A, something skin needs to stay healthy.

2 Granny Smith green apples Apples are full of antioxidants and free radical–fighting vitamin C. Also, apples give you tons of fiber, which, helps you, um, eliminate toxins from the body.

1 pear Pears are yummy and anti-inflammatory, meaning they calm redness. Pear enzymes speed up cell turnover, meaning: you’ll get newer skin cells faster.

1 big handful of fresh dandelion greens If you can get them, dandelion greens hold lots of vitamin A and support kidney function, helping to eliminate waste. Warning: If you don’t live somewhere where you can get dandelion greens at the store, please do not go outside, especially in a city, and pick dandelion leaves. Chances are they’ll have some sort of terrible chemical on them. You can swap in another type of green, such as spinach or kale.

 Steps:
Wash everything, then toss in your juicer or blender, and hit the “on” button. If you’re blending, add a cup of water to help liquefy your fruit.

The concoction will start out as a light green–and–fuchsia affair, but thanks to the beet, it’ll become a deep magenta when stirred. This recipe will make around 35 ounces of fresh juice, which you’ll need to keep in the fridge in an airtight container (stir before before drinking). Drink it up within two days, and then repeat, repeat, repeat for glowing, smooth skin!

I recommend drinking this particular juice out of a water bottle on which you’ve written “PORE PERFECTION WILL BE MINE” with black Sharpie.

♥ HowTo's: Shave Your Legs ♥

Basic Tips for a SmoothShave

There is no real trick to shaving. We all know how to do it, but not everyone knows how to get the best results and the softest legs. The following tips are the basics of a great, smooth shave:

Use a mild scrub (sugar scrubs are great), damp washcloth with your body wash, or a daily exfoliant such as AHA or BHA to help keep flaky skin at a minimum (which means you can get a closer shave). It is essential for your legs to be wet for at least two or three minutes before starting; wet hair is soft, pliable, and easier to cut. Nothing is as irritating or chafing as shaving dry or slightly damp legs. However, skin should not be soaked (as you might experience in a bathtub) because the skin swells up around the hair follicles, thus preventing a close shave. Finding a razor that works well for your skin, given the pressure you use while shaving, the texture of your skin, and the density of hair growth, takes some experimentation. No single type of razor works well for everyone, though the newer triple blades seem to work wonders. After finding the one that works best for you, the main thing is to change the blade frequently—dull razors make for poor shaving results. When it comes to shaving creams or gels, for both men and women, those that contain emollients (usually those identified as being good for sensitive dry skin) work perfectly on the legs! There is absolutely no reason to buy shaving gels or creams in pretty pink containers when in truth they are virtually identical to those in more masculine or unadorned packages. The only real difference in products targeted specifically to men or women is the type of fragrance, and fragrance-free is best for the least risk of irritation. Avoid shaving products that contain irritants (such as alcohol, menthol, and peppermint). Used over newly shaved skin, irritating ingredients can cause red bumps and ingrown hairs. If you find yourself without shaving cream in the shower, use hair conditioner or body wash instead. This is far easier on the legs than shaving with a bar soap or bar cleanser. For best results, shave against the growth of hair using careful strokes and applying even pressure. After you are done, do NOT use a loofah or washcloth. The action of shaving has already exfoliated your skin and further rubbing can cause irritation and create problems. At night apply a moisturizer, and during the day, if your legs are going to be exposed to sun, apply a moisturizer with sunscreen (SPF 15 or greater) that contains the UVA-protecting ingredients avobenzone, titanium dioxide, or zinc oxide. Avoid AHAs after shaving. The glycolic acid in AHA products can be unnecessarily irritating to freshly shaved skin.

Preventing Red Bumps

In addition to the occasional nicks and cuts incurred during shaving, it isn't unusual to also have an aftermath of uncomfortable and unattractive razor bumps (red, inflamed blemishes), particularly along the bikini line. Hair follicles are attached to oil glands, and both are attached to nerve endings. Shaving tends to irritate the skin, the hair follicle, and the oil gland, causing a rash-like breakout of annoying bumps. Ingrown hairs can also be a dilemma. Ingrown hairs are curly, wiry hairs that turn, curl, and dig into the adjacent skin as they grow out, or hairs that grow back in the wrong direction, causing a bump that can become infected.

As widespread a beauty problem as this can be, for women and men alike, the lack of products addressing the issue is surprising. The only non-irritating product we know of that is aimed specifically at reducing or preventing these red bumps is Paula's Choice CLINICAL Instant Calm Advanced Redness Relief. This contains stabilized aspirin, which is an effective topical agent that can alleviate most forms of skin irritation. It also contains willowherb and green tea, two potent anti-irritants that further help normalize and heal skin.

If you find the bumps do not respond well to CLINICAL Calm Instant Calm Advanced Redness Relief, try occasionally using an over-the-counter cortisone cream (Aveeno makes a good one) to reduce the redness and irritation. However, if the bumps get infected you need to disinfect them with an over-the-counter antibiotic like Neosporin, Polysporin, or Bacitracin. All three are excellent for quick relief from a small topical infection.

Contrary to what many believe, shaving does not change the texture, color, or rate of hair growth. Hair density is genetically and hormonally determined; it has nothing to do with what you do topically to the skin (unless you traumatically damage the hair follicle via injury or burns). But by following these simple steps you can have beautifully soft and smooth legs just in time for shorts weather.
